Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID)

Overview

An ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) uniquely identifies researchers and their affiliations across institutions, promoting transparency in collaborations and contributions while minimizing confusion caused by shared or similar names.

Assigning each researcher a unique ID enhances cybersecurity and compliance by creating a transparent, traceable record of scholarly activity across institutions and international borders.

The Marriott Library hosts a dedicated ORCID iD website to help researchers understand the benefits and practical uses of ORCID. The site explains what ORCID is, why it's promoted at the University of Utah, how to register for an iD, how to use it effectively, how to add scholarly works, and answers to frequently asked questions.
